Go Tigers!

GEAR UP would like to congratulate and recognize Prescott Senior, Irma Serratos, for being named The STEM Foundation's Rising Star from the Mid-Columbia Region for 2025-26. The STEM Foundation annually recognizes students from around the state of Washington for their interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.

Irma was nominated by her science teacher, Samuel Just. She shared the following about him:

One teacher who truly sparked my interest in STEM was Mr. Just. His passion for science and hands-on teaching made this subject feel exciting and approachable. What stood out to me the most was that he was always willing to help you one on one before school, lunch and even after school. Mr. Just has always encouraged his students to engage in lessons and never be afraid to ask questions.

Irma plans to pursue a career in health care with a focus on caring for children in physical therapy or imaging.

As The STEM Foundation’s Rising Star, Irma has been afforded opportunities to network and collaborate with other Rising Star students from around the state. In November, she will travel to the Microsoft Campus and attend their Statewide event.

Here is a link to the STEM Foundation's Facebook page with their post about Irma:
